6 months old!

Yesterday was Colin's six month birthday! I say this every month, but I cannot believe how fast the time has flown! It doesn't seem possible that our little guy is already half a year old!

Colin continues to amaze us every day. His new accomplishments are rolling everywhere (unfortunately this sometimes means in the middle of the night and wanting to play at 2 am), grabbing for everything in sight (including my glasses, hair, necklaces, etc.), scooting around his crib, and he loves his jumperoo and exersaucer. He also loves his oatmeal and chewing on anything in sight. It sounds like I'm writing his personal ad. Picture time.

Speaking of dates and anniversaries, tomorrow is our three year wedding anniversary! My parents were here this weekend and were kind enough to bring us cupcakery cupcakes so we could have a little taste of our wedding cake. They also watched Colin so we could enjoy a nice dinner out. It's hard to believe how much has changed in the past three years. I never would have imagined that the classical pieces I picked out to walk my friends and me down the aisle would now echo over our baby monitor at night as Colin is lulled to sleep by his beloved seahorse! It's been a great three years, but the past six months have definitely been the most eventful!

Here's some of Colin's six month pictures and some snapshots from our weekend:

local celebrities!

Colin and I are featured in today's Journal & Courier in a story about choosing a daycare:

The hard-copy version has a picture of Colin and his teacher on the front page, and the picture of the three of us is huge! Too bad Mr. Center-of-Attention doesn't even know he's the talk of Mom's office today!

back in the swing of things

Update since I've been a slacker....

The second batch of antibiotics did the trick and Colin appears to be over the worst of his ear infections. I am SO happy to have my happy guy back. He's teething hard-core, so he's still a little crabbier than normal, but nothing like the past couple of weeks. Plus, he's back to actually eating and sleeping, so everyone is much happier now!

This evening we went for a walk through the neighborhood and Colin tried out the swings for the first time. He was still a little small for the seat and didn't seem too sure about it, but he just hung on and watched.. no tears! Hopefully he hasn't inherited my fear of rides. I'm just glad he's feeling well enough to play again!

bottle of wine and a bubble bath, stat.

Y'all. This week has sucked. Seriously. Colin gave me his cold, so I've been miserable. The antibiotics aren't working, so Colin is miserable. (currently waiting on call back from dr. to find out if we can do something different so someone in our house can get a night of sleep in the near future). Stress from missing work, bad billable hours, daycare guilt, dirty house, no time...

BUT. The week wasn't all bad. We got our new shower/bath/fixtures put in this week and it looks GREAT! The people we hired did an amazing job and even came in under their estimate - can't beat that. I can't wait to take a bath in my super deep awesome soaking tub this weekend (hopefully that will make up for it being so tall that I bang my shin on it every morning).

I hesitate to even show the before pictures.. once we decided to tear it out and start over, we really let the water damage get bad.. it's got a very frat house look to it. But the shiny new tub deserves to be shown off! Here it is! http://tinyurl.com/y7hclnu

first ear infections: not the most fun milestone.

Last week, I got a call from daycare that Colin had a mild fever and wasn't feeling well. I went to get him and he had a rash on his face and neck, fever, congestion, and just looked generally miserable. I felt so bad for the little guy. He seemed better on Friday so we sent him back to school, but by 4 pm he was a wreck again. All weekend he was extremely fussy, and just when I thought he'd be getting better, he got worse. I started to suspect his congestion had led to an ear infection because although he seemed hungry and would eat his oatmeal, he refused to eat from a bottle, and he wouldn't lay down flat - he would only sleep if we were holding him. (that led to Mike and me each getting about 3 hours of sleep saturday and sunday nights - some restful weekend that was!). His fever wasn't going away, either. So, this morning, we headed off to the pedi, who took one look at Colin's ears and reported he has a double ear infection. No wonder he was so miserable! His ears were bad enough that she prescribed amoxicillan and also some drops for his gooey eyes. Hopefully this will work quickly and he'll be back to normal soon. I miss my sweet and happy little guy. And also, sleep.

One whiff of that "bubblegum medicine" and I had major deja vu to gradeschool, staying home and laying my ear on a heating pad all day. Mike of course swears he's never had an ear infection and had never heard of the bubblegum medicine. (If that's true, I hope Colin gets his immune system and not mine!) Anyway, I laughed at our fridge - Colin and mom/dad's mixers all lined up on the shelf.

So, I'll spend the rest of the afternoon holding my little guy and hoping he gets better soon.

happy easter!!

We had a great first Easter with Colin. His Aunt Zoe came to visit for the weekend. Colin LOVED Zoe. I think she might have been his favorite visitor ever. He loved snuggling with her, flirting, and laughing at her. It was so cute! Zoe and I had some fun sister time too, getting massages and then dinner and wine while watching the basketball games (Mike was lucky enough to get to go to the Final Four in Indy). Colin also enjoyed playing with the easter eggs and his basket. Unfortunately, I think teething set in this afternoon and he was super crabby for the rest of the day. Hopefully whatever's bothering him will come through soon. Otherwise, it was a great weekend!

happy friday

Just because this picture makes me happy.
