10 months old

It feels like it has been about three days since I wrote Colin's 9 month post. Maybe it was spending the afternoon at his friend Sophie's first birthday party yesterday, but I'm suddenly feeling even sadder than normal about my little baby being all grown up. At the same time, it's so much fun watching him turn into a little toddler before our eyes.

He can't actually sit still long enough to pose for pictures anymore. This is as good as it gets.

He's finally got the hang of the sippy cup. Look at this party animal throwing them back. He's also eating more and more people food. He's great at feeding himself, except that he tends to keep stuffing the food in until his whole mouth is full and then he can't swallow it all at once.

He also prefers to sit at the counter rather than his high chair. Big boy.

Within the last week, his cruising has taken off. He now does laps around the ottoman, coffee table, even his crib.

So there's the ten month update. I managed to squeeze this in while he's napping. As I just told Mike, I'm too tired to formulate any more words. Happy ten months to our little handful!

cruisin

This weekend Colin started really walking all around our ottoman and couch. I tried really hard to get a good video of it, but as soon as Colin spots the camera, he stops what he's doing and tries to grab it. See below (this also demonstrates the pick-me-up cry, which is fun).

So, this isn't the greatest video, but at the beginning you can see a few tiny steps. Later, he was moving a lot quicker, with bigger steps, but I wasn't about to try and get the camera out again!

this kid loves to be in motion!

separation anxiety: he has it.

This is a picture of a little boy sleeping on his mom's lap yesterday, when he should have been in his crib.

This scene replayed itself last night from 1:30 to 5:30 am as well. It seems Colin has developed some separation anxiety. Although he's always been more of a daddy's boy, the past few days he's developed the awesome habit of crying whenever I leave the room. And screaming if I won't pick him up, or when I set him down. And crawling after me and crying when I leave him at daycare. And best of all, screaming when he wakes up alone in his bed, and refusing to sleep until I pick him up. Last night I indulged him b/c he is getting sick again and I felt sorry for him. I am just not cut out for the cry-it-out thing... and we've never had to do that, b/c he's always been such a good sleeper. But as I am struggling to feel human and focus on writing a trial brief this morning, I'm thinking this is going to have to change somehow.

Apparently, I'm not the only one he's attached to though. It seems Colin has a little best friend at daycare, Ryan. Colin's teacher says that Colin and Ryan are attached at the hip - they crawl around the room together, pick on the other babies together (my kid's already in a gang! awesome!), and when one of them leaves for the day, the other one cries! She said it's unusual for babies to bond like that at this age, but for whatever reason, they've made friends already. This morning I dropped Colin off and he was just grinning away at his little friend, which made it a little easier for me to slip out the door unnoticed. Perhaps Ryan would like to have a sleepover and keep Colin company tonight from 1-5 am....

apparently, Mike is hilarious.

Mike was absolutely cracking Colin up tonight with these noises.. he was laughing so hard he was practically choking! Then, after we taped a little bit of it and were replaying it on the video camera ... he started cracking up all over again. I could listen to this laugh all day long.

big boy bed and bath

Our little man's nighttime routine is suddenly looking much more like a toddler's than a baby's. We've given up on the baby bathtub and he's now in the big bath, which he loves. We gave up trying to hold him down to snap up his bodysuit jammies, so now he's in Big Boy PJs (he looks so grown up! It kills me!)

And, his crib is now a jungle gym.. as soon as we put him down, he pulls up and stands/jumps on the mattress. We never had bumpers in his crib when he was a newborn, but we had to get some b/c he kept hitting his head on the slats. It's just amazing how quickly he is turning into a little boy. first trip to the Lou

We spent the weekend in Edwardsville and Colin ventured to St. Louis for the first time (his third state, what a world traveler we have). He had a great time. We spent Saturday morning at the St. Louis Zoo - it was very cool getting to take him somewhere that I remember going when I was so small, and that Mike and I spent so much time at when I lived in St. Louis. We stopped first at Kaldi's and got coffee and people/dog watched while we waited for Aunt Zoe and Zach. It was also fun being back in my old neighborhood... but a little surreal to be at Kaldi's with a baby! We then went back to Zoe's, where he destroyed her apartment and tried to eat Grace.

I love Aunt Zoe!

The rest of the weekend, Colin enjoyed hanging out with his grandparents, stalking their cats, and even got to try his first bite of cupcake at the cupcakery, where we visited with Auntie Erin. We once again turned him over to his G, who got him to sleep Sat. night so we could have a nice (and much-needed) date night out. Sunday he got to meet his Auntie Emily for the first time. Poor little guy was totally overwhelmed and started crying at the massive amounts of Mitchells that greeted him at the door, but I assured him that was normal :) He was even good on the trip home - so all in all, it was a jam-packed but successful trip!

9 months, a week late

Finally getting around to posting Colin's 9 month update. Look at this big boy. He's officially been out longer than he was in!

We had his 9 month appointment on Tuesday. Mr. Colin is 19 lbs 12 oz, 27 3/4 in long, and his head is 45.3 cm. All the measurements are around the 40-50%. Unfortunately, we discovered he had another double ear infection at the appointment, but otherwise he's looking healthy and happy.

His nine month accomplishments include pulling up on anything and everything and crawling like crazy. This weekend he also pivoted from the couch to the coffee table.. I think steps are not too far away. He's on a formula strike the past few weeks.. it's a struggle to get him to eat from his bottles except for at bedtime, but he's loving his fruits, veggies, and yogurt. He's allowed to get a little more table food now too, so we'll be working on that. He's still babbling a ton and loves to crawl around making this brrrrrrr motorboat sound. He makes us laugh every day! Happy 9 months, Colin!
