lunch date

Remember these two?

Fastforward nine months or so...

Ellie and Colin had a little playdate on Saturday while Ellie's parents were running a race. Here are the kiddos having lunch. I wish I had gotten a video of Colin leaning over and pounding on Ellie's tray, and then her pounding back in response. It was... weird? Maybe they were communicating in morse code and plotting their escape.

It never fails to amaze me, watching Colin and his lady friends. Ellie, ever the lady, would only sit outside the ball pit and gently pick up one ball at a time and set it down. Colin, meanwhile, was bodysurfing and overhand pitching the balls out of the pool. Colin is also kind of a bully with his toys.. every time Ellie would get interested in something, he'd try to wrangle it away from her. Oh well. He has years to practice how to be nice to girls.

only a breech baby would sleep like this...

this is how I found the little stinker sleeping this morning. How is that comfortable possible? I really think he might turn out to be a gymnast.

happy belated birthday!

happy birthday Mike!

It hasn't been the easiest or best birthday week. Mike is staying down in Indy all week for certification training, Colin has (finally!) a tooth pushing through that's making him miserable, and I caught the stomach bug OF DEATH this week. Taking care of myself and Colin all by myself has reminded me what a great husband and dad Mike is and how everything really is easier because of him. Love you Michael and happy birthday!

This is Mike with a cake I didn't make. I did, however, buy one with whipped frosting, which I hate, because that's what he wanted. So I get some points there.

wanna be a baller

It's rainy and cold out today, so we needed some indoor fun. I had bought a bag of balls and a cheap baby pool to make a little ball pit for Colin's birthday party, but we decided to break it out early. This might be Colin's favorite thing on earth. I couldn't even get a picture til he pooped out because he was too busy frolicking around to look at the camera.

Here's Mike's iphone video.. fun times :)

Happy Saturday!

11 months.

Eleven months. Seriously. How is this possible? I know, I've been asking that for the past.. eleven months.

Before I get all sad about how he's not a baby anymore, let me tell you about all the fun we're having with Colin these days.

He has started to insist on feeding himself. Usually we give him finger foods but for some reason, I came home tonight to find Mike had given him a bowl o' hummus. Just hummus too, no bread or anything. It was hilarious. Let's just say, he enjoyed himself immensely. He also insisted on trying to use the spoon to feed himself. I'm not sure he's quite ready for that step. (some more pics are here: http://tinyurl.com/2dcfr6m)

He's into everything. EVERYTHING. He just found the toilet. And even worse, the toilet paper roll. He also loves to crawl behind doors and smack the doorstopper coils around (remember when Aunt Zoe used to do that? I do.)

Mike got around to putting a latch on one side of our entertainment center, but not the other. Colin now goes straight to the unlatched side, opens the cabinet, and proceeds to pull the DVDs out ... one at a time. He throws them on the floor and then moves on.

He even crawls into our laundry piles. I was cracking him up this weekend by putting socks on his head.

STILL no teeth, but this time, I really think I see one coming in. This past weekend, he went crazy on a bag of frozen corn - he grabbed it when we were at the store and cracked up the people behind us in line by gnawing on it. When we got home, we gave it back to him and he nommed on it for a good hour.

What else? He's cruising like crazy now - walking along walls, doors, and furniture. He's starting to climb up on more stuff too. He waves like crazy if we do it first (and sometimes when we don't) - though he hasn't yet tied it to "hi" and "bye bye", but we're working on it. His babbling is starting to sound more and more like real language, but we havent heard any real words yet. His favorite things are playing peek a boo, mirrors, balls (he definitely knows the word "ball"!) and general mayhem. He's just so much fun. And the final countdown to One begins...

class pics

If you can believe it, Colin has already had his first class pictures. I think they're kind of hilarious. You can see them at:

get your motor running...

What could make a Monday morning better than a baby driving a car?

Too bad his feet didn't reach the pedals or we'd be in trouble.

He has intense focus on the road.

I'm never letting him drive a car, by the way.
